Breathing exercises can be a great way to help relieve stress and anxiety. This video will focus on square breathing (also known as box breathing, 4×4 breathing and 4-part breathing). Pursed breathing. You can find more breathing exercises here.

Square breathing is my first step. Square breathing is so effective in relieving stress and anxiety, that it’s often used by the military to calm nerves prior to stressful situations.

You use your breath to create a square. You can also use imagery to imagine yourself making a square with your breath or following a square pattern. Each position takes 4 seconds. Hold your breath for four seconds. Next, take a deep breath in and hold it for four seconds. Then, exhale for four seconds.

Pursed breath is another technique that can relieve stress and anxiety and can strengthen your lungs. This one can be done with either belly or diaphragmatic breathing. For 4 seconds, breathe in and hold for 8 seconds. Next, exhale with your lips closed for 8 seconds.
